Product notities

---- From 2006-2009, PJ Shadowhawk played drums for the original QUASAR, a Prog Rock band relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area from England. With semi-legendary status, QUASAR helped to forge the neo-progressive era of music along with such notables as IQ, Pendragon, Pallas, Landmarq and Marillion. After much recording and live performances, PJ left the band in 2009 in order to dedicate full-time to this ('Land of Dreams') recording project. Joined by guitarist Evan Raymond, PJ has now completed work on a new solo CD, 'Land of Dreams'... --- Prior to 2006, PJ briefly played drums with Gabriel Scott and The Bleeder Project out of San Francisco. And for many years previously, PJ composed theme music for the Theatre, Television and Motion Pictures, including 'Membrane' and 'Food for the Moon'. PJ also played drums, bass, keyboards and guitar for club and show bands including the original Apocalypse (1979), Fury, Breakwater, Touch, TAZ, Omega Prime, The Honkytonk Band, Bankshot, Amberjack, The James Patrick Band and once, due to contractual obligations, had to turn down a summer tour with Merle Haggard. Early on, PJ used to play drums for Gabriel Bondage while working as a session drummer in Chicago. 'At times I've been singer/songwriter/guitarist/bassist/keyboardist/percussionist/programmer and producer... sometimes having worn all the hats to get things done... but I am primarily a drummer... and composer.' --- ---- PJ now owns and runs 'Dinosaur Records Productions' and 'PJAdamsongs', an ASCAP Publisher, as well as, writing and recording new and exciting music in all genres. Highlands Magazine (fr) writes... 'PJ SHADOWHAWK LAND OF DREAMS (United Kingdom, 2011) If the name PJ SHADOWHAWK arouses nothing in your memory, the group QUASAR, will not fail to arise in your memories. Founded in 1979 this group has now the added value of multi-instrumentalist PJ Shadowhawk ... a member between 2006 and 2009. This multi-instrumentalist / drummer 'Jack of all trades' has explored areas as diverse as production, singing and even composition for film and the theater. In the vein of néoprogressive groups like Pallas, Marillion, IQ, Pendragon, Renaissance and the two headliners Yes and Genesis, PJS offers a variety of exciting and melodic music. Playing all the instruments except the lead guitar of EVAN RAYMOND in places, you can trust the ten songs allow themselves to be discovered with ease. 'Songs of Atlantis Suite' paints a landscape using both 'Seventh Age' and 'Atlantis'. Alert, vibrant, playful, with selected passages of beautiful flights, the voices, keyboards, and guitars move us. And then, the voice speaking softly arises. A personal tone is being set up and the listener is bathed in warmth and sincerity. 'Land of Dreams', the title song which gives it's name to the album, continues in this vein, with a more aggressive rhythm, more rock, more presence. A basic theme is now taken up and developed with input from several different instruments played consistently more and more complex. The lyrics should not be neglected as PJS is most able to express ideas and feelings. 'Who would Jesus Bomb?' stretches the melodic sounds around lightly, joyful, a bit martial and pompous, to become almost 'classic'. A mixture of the present and the past, we now traverse 'Two Sides', due to changing rhythms and instruments. Coherence won the support of the audience. We walk now without discomfort and without procrastination. The impression that the composer expresses clearly define positions and beliefs with the desire always present to share experiences. 'Alone' begins with delicacy before the guitar takes possession of the piece. This is an intense performance with expressive purpose, present but not selfish. 'Shadowhawk Attacks' seem more modern, a musical line that runs. As the shortest of the album this introduces the bonus tracks, 'Apocalypse', which is split in two parts. Really prog with it's convolutions, heavily based on the guitar, it's breaks, it's changes, moods and tones. The song hardens and sticks to the notes. The inclusion of spoken passages wake up and stimulate attention. It provides a space, timeless, suspended between two moments of pleasure. Fans of the genre will not be disappointed nor frightened. This multi-instrumentalist brings multiple talents to a reflective album, well composed and perfectly executed. 14/20 Catherine CODRIDEX'
