Guilty of what? Well, let's see...waiting too long to make this CD? Still reacting to a Republican Alabama childhood by living the life of a bleeding heart liberal on the West Coast? Maybe. Guilty White Boy marks Bewley's second solo release after 2004's Beat EP. Lush but restrained arrangements float offbeat lyrics that range from folk-storytelling to pop-impressionistic. His song subjects - icons, freaks, and other invisible Americans - are finally getting their due. The musicians on this album are soulful and spot on. The lyrics and sound reflect Bewley's upbringing in the deep south, his adventures in New York City, and his current wanderings in the City of Angels. He proudly teaches English at the best public charter high school in Los Angeles.
