Less Is More
"Less Is More" produced in a simple and unpretentious manner, (makeshift recording studio- vocals and piano, with Les Kurtz on piano and Brown Sugar Recording Studios providing professional finish) was recorded for 2 reasons: I just wanted to listen to a CD of myself singing. A multi-faceted person who in addition to being a trained vocalist and performer, am for the past 30 years a Registered Nurse and Holistic Health & Healing Arts Practitioner who feels it was important to concretely express my artistic side. The other reason is because from time to time fans would ask me "What are you doing now.....are you still singing?" I wanted to grace them with their copy of "Less Is More". The 15 tunes on "Less Is More" include a few of my favorites as well as tunes that were special to me. To name a few, I was excited to sing "Who Will Buy", Nobody Knows" and "In My Solitude" as they incorporate vocal arrangements that I did 20 years ago. I wrote "Slow Down" in collaboration with L.A. hailed Musician/Composer/Musical Arranger Marvin Augustus. Some time ago I heard a vocalist Toni Hamilton sings "He's Out of My Life" and she moved me to cover that song. And then.....there's "Miss Otis Regrets", a song that has become one of my favorites, thanks to my manager at the time, renowned Blues Singer Brother John Sellers who insisted I include it in my repertoire. And so with that I say- the most important attribute a singer can bring to a song is the ability to tell the story. It's not about how great a singer's voice is or how well the singer did or didn't hit a note, rather- it's about did the singer tell the story. And so, on each of these songs, I try to tell the story. ' Less Is More" is not perfect; having said that I also say...... perfection is all "in the ear of the beholder"......so now behold..... Blessings...... Ybati.
