Yazmín is a newly emerging singer, pianist and song-writer based in the upper midwest. She's been playing music all her life, as both her parents are musicians. After taking up the piano at age 4 she gradually began writing songs and soon found that this was her life's work. Over the years she has intensively studied traditional Cuban music, but most recently has found herself writing indie/alternative songs that occasionally intertwine these Latin traditions with a fresh, creative American sound. From 2008 up until 2010 she was the leader of her own Latin ensemble called "La Banda Nueva", based in the Twin Cities area. They played together regularly for those two years, but eventually Yazmín found herself drifting more toward playing her singer-songwriter material. She now performs her songs mostly solo as well as with her trio "Beat Zero" (Yazmín plus a guitarist and drummer). In the summer of 2010 she won first place at Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua's "Songwriter of the Year Competition" with her song "Working in the Shadows". 'Solo' is comprised of 5 songs that were recorded at Fantasy Studio in Berkeley, California and is her debut release.
