Yak in the Day
'Yak in the Day' is a retrospective compilation of songs spanning the previous four CDs recorded by Yak members between 1999 and 2004. These songs predate The Yaks name and were recorded when the members were calling themselves 'Fiction' - partly in jest that two of the members were in fact refugees from the nineties L.A.-band 'Non-Fiction.' The seventeen songs in this collection come from the albums Slice (2001), Fiction (2002), Hypocracy (sic, 2003), and Pedestrian Muse (2004) - all of which are available in their entirety by special request at The Yaks website. This compilation is identical to the bootleg entitled 'PopCanon: The Good Stuff Volume 2', so you maybe already familiar with the included songs. However, the opportunity for wider distribution through this site combined with the fact that 'Fiction' and 'PopCanon' have more recently been found to be names already in use by other music groups have led The Yaks to re release these songs under their new name and with the new title. (We have recently learned that there was a Bavarian cover band between 1966-68 that went by The Yaks, so I hope they don't mind if we borrow the name. If they do we will gladly become the New Yaks, or better yet -- the Gnu Yaks.) In addition to the two current Yaks, the guitar of third member Jason Grant was prominent on these back recordings. Grant's active involvement with the group ended in 2004 due to the inconvenience of living several hundred miles away from the rest of the band.
