Come to the Foot of the Cross
"Come to the Foot of the Cross" As I was listening to a message entitled "A Call to Anguish", preached by David Wilkerson, Pastor of the Time Square Church in New York City and author of the best-seller "The Cross and the Switchblade", I was deeply and profoundly impacted by the desperate need this world has for a savior. More so, I was impacted by David's passionate statement of how powerless and complacent the Church has become in this day and age. Our belief system and the meaning of holiness has been watered down and we have allowed every external force to stimulate our senses and captivate our minds to the point that we are ineffective in praying for and reaching people with the true Christ of Christianity. As I have been struggling over the past year with the value and effectiveness of the church in our society today, I have come to understand the importance the meaning of the cross plays in our everyday lives - in the vary fabric of our beliefs. It is at the core of our Christian beliefs and it is imperative we understand and cling to it's meaning that we may become effective followers of Jesus. That translates into everything we do, every day. From work, to school to family life to our friendships, it molds our thinking, curbs our tongue and helps us to be effective communicators of the love of Jesus. As pastors, worship leaders, teachers, lay-workers and all of the other roles that make up the the Body of Christ, His Church, It is time for us to come to the foot of the cross in anguish - in deep pain and sorrow - and ask God's forgiveness for our complacency so we can once again become effective in showing our families, our friends and our world the Jesus who truly saves us! It is my hope and prayer that when you hear this song, you will be moved to come to the Cross in anguish like Nehemiah. (Nehemiah 1:5-9) and let it shape who you are as a Christian and move you toward true worship.
