In a recent interview with Tim Coffman, the well-known producer and the creative force behind Rolltop Records explained how 'Worship Remixes came about. 'For five years we toured with the Adventures praise band, leading worship in a variety of churches and in different parts of the country and there were certain songs that connected with congregations wherever we played'. Tim took those songs, all from the highly successful 'Adventures In God's Presence' worship series and began to visualize presenting them to a new generation of worshipers. Coffman enlisted the help of some young, passionate worship leaders from the San Diego and Los Angeles area. The adventurous producer began recording these extraordinary songs in new styles that are definitely modern but still remain true to their original vision. Worship remixes is a perfect blend between the youthful and experienced. Coffman has assembled a supporting cast of new musicians and well known musicians that have appeared on other Rolltop CD's. The talented guitarist Anthony De Luz and John Rekevics' on sax provide splendid riffs and tones. As always Coffman's producing skills engage the listener with great insights. Whether it is a lush synth sounds or crunching guitars he keeps you wanting to hear more. The selection of styles range from R & B to modern folk to alternative rock. Worship Remixes reflects the heart of a new generation as they praise God with their talents, in styles and sounds that should connect with new and old audiences alike.Worship Remixes hits the mark and points the listener towards worshiping God. Here is a track-by-track glimpse of each song. Track 1: I SURRENDER. The soft coaxing vocals of Carl Deese provide the attitude of surrendering to God as he lays down a new arrangement of this familiar song. Carl also adds some tasty acoustic guitar leads. The Cajon (a newcomer to modern music) provides the drum groove and percussionist Dustin Kinney adds the brushes and cymbals. Track 2: BREATHE ON ME. This intense worship song builds to a dynamic climax. Julie Coffman handles the lead vocals in this call and answer style as she uses the memorable melody to inspire listeners to fix their eyes on the Lord. The pop vamp and classical guitar riffs at the end were great. I immediately had to play this song over. Track 3: LIFT HIM UP. You won't be able to sit still when you hear this song. The band dishes out a 'Motown' groove, Leigh Taylor's vocals are strong and convincing, and the sax will put a lot of joy into your heart. With the gritty keyboards and wah-wah pedal you've got Stevie Wonder meets Jon Gibson. Cool tune. Track 4: GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST. Stadium guitars and big drums blend with Delirious. The bridge is a nice departure too, just like a bridge should be. Rock voice. Great rock fade. Yeah, Toby Walters and Whirl know how to rock. Track 5: I WILL STAY BY YOUR SIDE. Tenor vocalist Will Fejeran soars with his unique style on this thoughtful R & B ballad. Brenda Fejeran provides smooth background vocals and the tender sax work of John Rekevics is luxurious. Track 6: YOU'RE IN MY HEART. This may be the best song on the CD. Vivien Schmuki's vocals are passionate, and the music is dynamic. The hook is easy to get into and the break is perfect. Gary Arthur's performance is stellar on the archtop guitar and guitarist Anthony Da Luz's makes the classical leads dance with excitement. Track 7: TO HIM WHO SITS UPON THE THRONE. Anthem rock hooks, over-driven guitars, and a cool feedback ending, pushes this pulse pounding song. Josh Wagner plays acoustic and electric guitar, bass, and sings. David Torr holds it together on drums. Track 8: MORE OF YOU. Will and Brenda Fejeran have made this hugely popular song a funky jam duet complete with wah-wah pedal, synths, and a moog. This is what Motown should have been singing about. Track 9: LORD I LOVE YOU. A good straight up rock ballad. I enjoyed the recurring piano riff by pianist and lead vocalist Nathan Robinson and the driving-guitar gives great dynamic separation. The song delivers a strong passionate statement of love for God. Track 10: HEAL OUR LAND. This plea for national healing is well done in Shaleem Manno's folk vocal approach. Add to the simple style a little distant wailing electric guitar and a dash of surf, and this prayer sinks deep inside you.
