Secret of Toadflax Tea
The Secret of Toadflax Tea is the debut album from Columbus band Wing & Tusk. In eleven songs, it tells the story of an old monk and a young monk living in a monastery on a European island during the black plague, and their eventual run in with a visiting doctor and merchant of medicine, who has all but given up in his search for a cure. When the young monk is made privy to a miracle cure-all, Toadflax Tea, protected by centuries of church tradition, the shit really hits the fan. 'Wing and Tusk went for broke, and it worked. The Secret of Toadflax Tea is a beautiful, pristinely recorded album that refuses to be bogged down by the intricate and seemingly arcane storyline... Wing & Tusk takes their folk-rock foundation and builds on it until it reaches the ether... At last, Toadflax Tea is no longer a secret, and you would be well-advised to drink deeply.' - Joel Oliphint, The Other Paper / donewaiting.com 'When it comes to ambitious, literate indie rock, there's a fine line between interesting and indulgent. Wing & Tusk falls on the right side of that divide... Their thoughtful chamber pop drapes tight harmonies around intricate arrangements, with lyrics that could have come from the frustrated fever dream of a recovering novelist.' - Columbus Alive.
