Product notities

Review from minor7th.com: 'The ground where folk music intersects with classical was perhaps first visited by George Gershwin in 1924 with the debut of 'Rhapsody in Blue.' Some have since questioned whether the natural spontaneity of jazz comes off as too contrived when scored for classical instruments as Gershwin did with 'Rhapsody.' Willy Dalton, on his CD 'Riverwalk,' proves that this criticism doesn't hold when fingerstyle music is scored to be paired with that of a string quartet. Supported through a grant from The Urban History Initiative, 'Riverwalk' includes five short, but ingenious, tracks which remind us that fingerstyle and classical idioms are branches from the same heritage, and which commingle very naturally. 'Ducks on the Water' and 'The 4th of July' especially evoke the pastoral polytonality of Darius Milhaud's works. '© Alan Fark 'Riverwalk', music for string quartet and guitar, was composed in 1997. The inspiration for the music is The Great Falls and surrounding area in Paterson, New Jersey, where I live. I played my Martin OM28 acoustic guitar to give the music more of an 'American' feel. 'Ducks On The Water' reflects the quick movement of ducks and geese on the Passaic River which feeds the Great Falls. 'The 4th Of July' is a very important day in Paterson's history. On that day in 1792 Alexander Hamilton met with the officers of the Society For Establishing Useful Manufactures (S.U.M.) and incorporated the city at the Passaic Falls, naming it after the current governor, William Paterson. 'Silk City' became the city's nickname when it developed into an industrial power--the movement plays on this and is also the bluesy, jazzy double entendre of the nickname. 'S.U.M' alludes to the mechanical, industrial sound of the city. 'Walking Home' is a reflection on walking by the Great Falls and the Passaic River. The four pieces for solo guitar were performed on my Antonio Aparicio flamenco guitar. 'Around The Room' is in a traditional classical guitar style. 'Late Winter' and 'Blue Fingers' demonstrate a folk and blues theme for fingerpicked guitar. 'Strings And Frets' shows various styles that can be played on this instrument-- classical, jazz, flamenco, blues, etc.
