'Recollections', an album for solo piano, is William Haviland's debut music release. Composed during 2009 and the early part of 2010, the work recounts an individual's story, a journey through a series of personal memories, or recollections. It is a voyage of introspection, at times melancholy, sombre, bittersweet; at others, warm, and uplifting. The project's inspiration began one dark February afternoon, in 2009. I can recall the sound of gentle rain falling against my window. It was instantly soothing, and meditative. This led that night to the writing of the album's opening track, 'Awakening'. Indeed, there is something of the weather/seasons in general, permeating these eight pieces. And, although the intention was not to create an autobiographical work, undoubtedly there is much in the music of my own feelings, during this year and a half of my life. Stylistically, 'Recollections' is intended to soothe and enhance your mood. It is a contemporary classical collection, to be enjoyed best as a whole, and of an evening.
