Dramatic depiction of the life of Swami Vivekananda, prophet of the harmony of religions and the divinity of the soul. The universal themes of the libretto are paralleled by a synthesis of Western classical and world music styles into a unified musical language. Tambura drone and Indian raga scales combine and alternate with contemporary Western harmony and counterpoint, Baroque form and instrumentation, narrators, tenor soloist and chorus. John Schlenck's music transcends individual and national boundaries and expresses a universal spiritual vision. Elements of East and West combine to raise the listener to a realm beyond boundaries.
