(NOTE: The band was initially named Graceland after one of Chicago's largest cemeteries. It was this that ignited the funeral-esque lyrics that coincide with dark yet soothing melodies. The Latin phrase "Mortui Viventes Docent" (the dead are our teachers) can be found on many of their merchandise. Nearing the time of publication they were advised to change the name for legal reasons and so it was that Larry Millas suggested the name Underground and it stuck.) This unique band was founded on March 1st 2010 in Chicago, IL when D. Brunk (X Factor 1, Only Flesh) had compiled a plethora of riffs and tracks that needed accompaniment. He put out an ad on a national classifieds section for "MUSICIANS WANTED." A few responses came and went with no real bang. Two days later Mike Arturi (The Lovin' Spoonful) modestly responded inquiring if the project was still in need of musicians, indeed it was. Arturi gave bass player Mike Gorman (Off Broadway) a shout and together they teamed up with Brunk to begin Underground. After one practice, Arturi arranged a meeting with producer and recording engineer Larry Millas (The ides of March) in order to create a unique collaboration for an artistic record. The date was then set for July 31st to being recording the first album "Sepulchre." (The album name is a French word meaning "burial" or "tomb.") Brunk posted ads for serious musicians which yielded a response from Miss Lauren Saks, a Denison University grad whose specialty is the violin. After one get-together it was decided that she was a member. Earlier that same week, Brunk called up long time friend and Ohio promoter Zach Sin Holland to see if he may know any vocal talent. He referred him to Miss Shannon Moser an up and coming singer/songwriter whose heart beats for music. Four days later Brunk and Moser started lyrical composition for the ominous record. The first album was completed in 10 days (sessions) and was never once guided in a specific direction or genre. "The music is what it is and I enjoy having everyone bring their musical backgrounds into the making of Sepulchre." - Brunk Ladies and Gentlemen I proudly present to you (and we all shall be) Underground.
