"Underdog Cadillac " is an exciting new group that brings together a potent combination of American and Australian musical and cultural influences that provides the basis for both a sharp musical attack as well as lyrically insightful stories about our world that run the gamut from optimistic and introspective to flat out cynical anger. Among their varied influences are songwriters Tom Petty and Don Henley and bands AC/DC and The Police. "We write songs that explore the sometimes sad state of the world in which we live, songs about greed and vacuous celebrity and environmental destruction and then we also write about holding out hope for optimism and the essential role of each individual in making sure good things happen, the power that people have to change things" Based in the Surfers Paradise region of Australia's Gold Coast just south of Brisbane, the group's founders are David B. Hoskot from Los Angeles, California and Scott Whatman from Queensland, Australia. David Hoskot was born in North Carolina and raised in Los Angeles. He has been a drummer since the age of 15 and has played and recorded with many California bands, including The Heaters and Arista recording artists The Pop. He has toured as a percussionist with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in the USA and he has played drums with Bob Dylan in a video. He holds a bachelors degree in philosophy and is a keen animal lover who has worked in numerous animal shelters and organizations as a lifelong proponent of the need to educate people on how to create a better world through kindness and compassion to animals. He is the group's drummer and chief lyricist. Scott Whatman was born in Murwillumbah in Northern New South Wales and grew up in the border towns between New South Wales and Queensland. He is a lifelong guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who has performed with some of Australia's best known artists including Phil Emmanuel as the lead singer for the band "Kakadu" and recorded with the venerable and esteemed ex-pat American studio guitarist extraordinaire Louie Shelton. In addition Scott has owned and operated his own commercial recording studio for over 10 years and that deep level of experience has enabled him to develop into an extremely professional writer, arranger, engineer and producer. He has been named the "Gold Coast guitarist of the year", is an ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) nominated songwriter, and is a Queensland Recording Association "Sunnie Award" winner. Scott plays lead and rhythm guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and is the group's lead vocalist. David and Scott co-wrote all twelve songs on the band's debut record titled "Better Days" and co-produced the album together. "Better Days" by "Underdog Cadillac" is a powerful musical wake up call for people everywhere to get off the fence and do their part towards making the world that we all share a more tolerant, kinder and fairer place to live our lives.
