Product notities

Since 2007 Traveling Notes has brought together young musicians from different countries with the combined purpose of providing them with high-quality music education, cultural awareness, and a sense of social responsibility. The idea of producing this CD came into being thanks to the involvement and creative thinking of Paulo Herrera Maluf, a generous philanthropist in the Dominican Republic who has taken a special interest in the program. The objectives for the production of this CD were manifold. In the first place we wanted to create a testimony to the skill and quality of the young participants with whom Traveling Notes typically works and capture the musical artistry that continuously amazes their teachers, their audiences and their fellow musicians year after year. When you listen to this CD you will find it hard to believe that the average age of the musicians is 17 years old. The talent and dedication of these young performers are an inspiration to all of us, an admirable example that we wanted to portray and share. In addition we wanted to reflect the multi-cultural nature of the Traveling Notes program by including music that represents the different countries that have participated in it's festivals thus far, as well as further the program's mission of disseminating the cultural heritage of it's participants and extend their roles as ambassadors of their countries: the Dominican Republic, Peru, Mexico, and the United States. To this end we commissioned special arrangements of traditional holiday songs that are well know by the older generations of Dominicans, Peruvians, Mexicans and North Americans, but that rarely cross the borders and that risk becoming forgotten as time passes. The principal performers on the CD are all young and talented music students from these four countries; they have in common a passion for music, a desire to excel as musicians, and a willingness to support this worthwhile project. Lastly, this CD will serve as a means to allow Traveling Notes to continue it's mission of providing young musicians from different countries with the opportunity to learn and make music in a multi-cultural environment of peer learning and develop mutual respect and a value for social responsibility. The price you pay for this CD will go in it's entirety to support the Traveling Notes' mission and to increase it's scholarship fund which permits us to select participants based on talent and merit, regardless of economic background. The recording of the CD in itself reflects Traveling Notes' core idea of bringing together contributions from different places to create a whole that is far bigger than the sum of it's parts. The project required four recording sessions: three in Norfolk, VA to produce the master recording with US, Mexican and Peruvian musicians and one in Santo Domingo to overlay the sound of the Dominican musicians. All recordings as well as the entire production process were lead by Maestro Jorge Aguirre, Peruvian-born violinist of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and trained orchestra conductor. In Norfolk the recordings where made in the Larchmont United Methodist Church whose exceptional acoustics give the CD a superb sound quality. In Santo Domingo the musicians were recorded in a professional studio to reinforce and complement the Norfolk takes. The mixing and sound-mastering process to unite all these recordings and make them sound as one was initiated in the Dominican Republic after the last recording, while the finishing touches were applied in Norfolk to create the remarkable result you are viewing now. We hope you will enjoy this treasure of music that was handed down from generation to generation and captures the legacy not only of the classical composers but also that of the traditional song writers of the Dominican Republic, Peru, Mexico and the US. At the same time we thank you for supporting the Traveling Notes program.
