Time and space; we mark and measure our days and places with calendar and clock, map and compass, tide-book and chart. We plan with wind, weather, and wave height in mind. All this is good. Knowing where we are in the scheme of things and planning accordingly makes our lives richer. But that's not all there is to it -- it's not enough. There are points in our lives that seem to arrive magically; flashes of insight, understanding, and love seem to emerge out of nowhere. And sometimes there are songs. Songs that require us to stop measuring and marking, to just sign on, get on board for the ride.
