Tannhauser was founded in 2007 and originally consisted of members of the local indie scenes in the Flemish towns of Genk and Louvain. In 2008 the band released an unintentionally lo-fi debut EP 'Almost'. In early 2009, main songwriter Erick de Deyn constructed a home studio where in March the band began recording their first full album 'Löven'. The album was released on December 1st. Despite the overt shoegaze tendencies, the songs are very poppy and almost twee in nature. Compared to later releases, Tannhauser would never again sound this immediately accessible.
