Bluest Butter Larvae (For String Quartet)
Subimage is the life-long musical project of Christopher Campbell, a composer based in San Francisco, California. He is quite schizophrenic in the genres he explores: dizzying analog synthesizer pop, warm-fuzz guitar indie noise, and now an experimental/classical work for string quartet. What remains consistent regardless of genre, is strong melody, strong emphasis on defiance, and a strong relationship to the human core. Pretentious? Yes but we couldn't really come up with anything else. It just seems so. Three movements. Three attempts to make sense of the untimely Himalayan death of the artist's father. Which corresponded, cruelly one might say, with the birth of a first son. Overwhelming! Music the balm! Bluest Butter Larvae, for String Quartet, was originally a fully-funded Kickstarter project.
