Product notities

Welcome to "What Remains"...my seventh CD since 2006. I am greatly appreciative to the music writers and critics for their words of wisdom and guidance for my work. I hope that you will enjoy this latest collaboration with my producer Eddie Seville. I am quite certain that I did not start out with a common theme; in fact, "What Remains" was just a title with no particular meaning....derived from an e-mail reference to some songs left from the "Sunset at the North Pole" sessions in 2008. Curiously only two of those songs "remain". Yet as I look at the songs, lo and behold, it sure looks like the common thread is what occurs when the modern world's illusions evaporate and we are looking into the face of our own humanity: • Mystery and truth seeking ("The Forger's Tale"); • Choices made (or not) ("The Only Way I Want It"); • Deceit and materialism ("Hostages and Orphans"); • Time passages and the power of memory ("Time Returns"); • Ignoring the obvious when it is staring you in the face ("Series of Hits and Misses"); • Thoughts about people who come in and out of our lives ("Questions"); • Unearthing the artifacts of our own making ("Archaeology"); • Doubt and confusion ("Nelio's Dream"); • Living in the wake of the Wall Street escapades ("The Lights Are Out In This Town"); • Elusive love and hope ("Clouds Will Pass Away"); • Prospecting for old fashion values ("Jasper McPhee"); • Knowing when to take the leap ("What Remains"); and, • Ghosts that creep up behind us ("Endnotes"). The CD ends with the film version of "The Forger's Tale" to be featured in the film "Fake". This is not a portentous as it sounds. Hopefully, that is because the music will be a diversion and for that I am forever grateful to the great musicians that have worked with me for the past few years: Eddie Seville, the magician, the denizen of the Ferndale Valley Sanctuary, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and a great friend; Billy Kotsaftis, a lead guitarist who captures every song with a subtlety and sublime presence; Karl Allweier, a remarkable artist on the double and electric bass whose cascading acoustic guitar opens the CD; Tony Casagrande, whose vocals actually bring some method to my madness and whose blithe accordion handiness will make his ancestors dance in heaven; Matt Cartsonis, whose mandolin and organ would bring a smile to Jasper's face; Bob Loveday, master violinist, raconteur and friend of Max Canale; and, Sallylu Sianni, who sings like an angel and who brings heart to her wonderful harmonies. I also am pleased to be joined by Natalie Modugno, a remarkable singer, whose harmonies grace my work for the first time; and, Ashley Bathgate, who plays the cello with an intelligence and intensity that add a new dimension to this work. Thank you to whoever has been sending me these songs. Keep them coming. Regards from New Haven, CT USA, Steve.
