Product notities

Mr. Davison is a finger style guitarist who composes on both the 6 and 12 string guitar. An aging hipster, his musical career started at age 12 playing the drums in a multitude of rock and roll bands. At the tender age of 19 he saw a performance on solo acoustic guitar in Denton, Texas by a performer named Thom Ward (who he would really like to locate!) that changed his life. He put down the sticks and picked up the guitar and started a life long journey of discovery. He realized (too late according to some) that he really couldn't sing so he eventually turned to solo instrumental music. His compositions are built around simple melodic structures and focus on the intimate qualities of the wooden guitar and the tonal possibilities of alternate tunings that give the guitar such an extraordinary range. His 12 string work is notable for it's percussive and melodic invention. Few artists attempt fingerstyle on the 12 string due to the difficulty involved but Davison bridges the technical with the sublime in his 12 string compositions. All of his compositions emphasize melodic invention over virtuosity, but suffice it to say, Mr. Davison knows his way around the fretboard. Rarely playing in standard tuning, he uses the incredible range that alternative tunings give the guitar to his advantage, finding his own unique voicing and chordal approach. His influences range from the jazz piano stylings of Claudia Burson (who taught him what was musical and what wasn't) to the work of fingerstyle guitarists such as Leo Kotke, Ed Gerhard, Ken Bonfield, Peter Janson and Stephen Bennett. Mr. Davison is a 2 time finalist and 2005 winner of the solo competition at the Arkansas Acoustic Music Festival at the University of Central Arkansas and a finalist in the 2009 Merle Travis Fingerstyle Competition at the Ozark Folk Center . Mr. Davison has performed Riverfest, Acoustic Sounds Café, Peace Acoustic Café, Advent Café, The Poet's Loft and other acoustic music venues around the state. He has opened for such artists as Richard Thompson, Pierre Bertaud, Emily Katz PeterJanson and Ken Bonfield. Since 2009 Steve has been touring with Ken Bonfield as the Artistry of the Guitar. They produce 'player in the round' concerts featuring themselves and other fingerstyle guitarists in concerts that accentuate the art of fingerstyle guitar by displaying the different styles of different players. They have performed in Boston, MA, Brattleboro, VT, Little Rock, AR, Hot Springs, AR, Nashville, TN, Pittsburgh Pa, Roanoke VA, Amherst and Marshfield, WI among other cities around the country. Mr. Davison was a featured performer on Arkansas Educational Network Television's "AETN Presents" broadcast and his music was also used as a soundtrack for another AETN production, "The Historic Bridges of Arkansas". 'Cafes and other venues ought to be booking the 52-year-old Davison. His two songs, 'Of Woods and Water' and 'Bayou Bartholomew Blues' electrified the crowd at the Arkansas Acoustic Music Festival. It is really good to see someone at the top of their game." Jim Harris, Arkansas Times.
