My World Trip
This project was a 2 year process of writing,recording...editing...mixing....and producing. Whew ! I did work on other projects and collaborations over that 2 years, but this took forever.....but well, well worth the wait and extra effort I put in! I write the music alone, late at night. I have various methods of composing. Sometimes I find or create unique drum loops, line them up into general 'song' structure, then find an instrument to express myself with. I may set up a Keyboard to play Piano, Strings, Synths, etc,.....or grab an acoustic or electric guitar....or find weird samples...... . but eventually I develop what I think is a song with an interesting melody / changes / and rhythms. I have been streaching out, and creating larger pieces sometimes, with 5 or 6 sections. These tracks are my favorites! They take you on a journey from land to land, jazz to reggae, classical to ripping guitar solo's. crazy chord changes and funky/weird beats & percussion. This time around several studio changes have made me able to bring in more guest musicians. In the past on most CD's, i would program the drum and percussion parts, bass parts etc from a keyboard. Now I have painstakingly brought in 3 drummers, 2 bassists, a sax and jazz guitarist, and I played drums, percussion, all keyboards and acoustic / electric guitar. I got deeper into Pro-Tools, bought drum mics, bought great Reference monitors, better computer...etc. Now I ask drummers to come in after I have the structure and thing programed and ask them to replace my midi drums and loops, ( for the most part), with live ideas. I hadChris Plunkett and harlie Schafer on bass and rick Brunermer on Tenor, Alto, Saprano, Baritone, and flute ! This is as much his making as mine. Without guys like Rick, Chris, Bobby Boyd and Doug Clarke, this CD would sound much, much different. My compositions have come to life.
