Hannibal (247-182 BC) was one of the greatest military leaders in history. Hannibal 's march on Rome, 218-217 BC, remains to be one of the greatest feats in military history. From Barcelona he crossed the Pyrenees Mts. With 50,000 Spaniard and 37 elephants. They marched through southern Gauls (now known as France ) over the autumn snow of the Swiss Alps, catching the Romans off guard and achieving the first of many victories over the Roman Empire. It is this conquest that has inspired me to compose this guitar suite. As a classical guitarist, I have been inspired by Hannibal's legacy of conquest, as well as the musical modes that may be used to convey the tale.To closer represent the musical period during Hannibal's time, each piece was written utilizing Modal Scales (scales developed during ancient Greece)- primarily scales representing the themes of War and Death. Additionally, In one piece, I utilized a march for the rhythm of the main theme. Introduced in this first piece, "Hannibal's Fleet", this march, however, is set not to a standard 2 legged march, but rather a 4 legged march - representing the march of the elephants. I do Hope you enjoy my original sound track and the retelling of one of the most amazing tales ever known to our world history. For possible inclusion in any movie project, please contact me...
