First Time Again
'Not just another Thai-western band', is what they use to say. Back in 1992, this record was penned to be released, but then shelved when record deal went bad. Band broke up, but the CD lives on! Fast forward to 2009. Joe Romersa, producer and lead vocalist, finally releases for the first time on his own Shadow Box Studio label, the CD that almost never was. In late '80's, this band was played on KCRW's Mornings Become Eclectic by Tom Schnobel and Chris Douridas. Also Rodney Bingenheimer in'94 put Soy Cowboy on his 'Top Ten List of Bands to Succeed'. The sounds and production on this CD are unique unto itself. Fun. Romantic. Psychedelic. Foreign but familiar. Three Thai girls sing in Thai and English, while Joe delivers a cowboy's voice to the story. Founder, keyboardist and main writer Vince Nicoletti paints a picture in lyrics of a Western man falling in Love in an Eastern place. Guitarist, Wade Charles XXIII, gives the term 'Noodling on guitar' a whole new meaning. And Tim Long, bass and harmonica, and Brian Glascock, drums, supply the hypnotic rhythms needed to drift into the magic.
