Sonic Compass is a project band that is the vision of executive producer DeVeaux Gauger. The idea for this started many years ago and has continually evolved up until the spring of '10 when DeVeaux, along with co-producer Chris Ranney, finalized the album songlist and planned out the recording and post-production. The Minor Directions album is a musician-driven recording that draws inspiration from the early '70's era of jazz/rock fusion and progressive rock. Five of the tracks were recorded live in the studio, with the other three recorded incrementally over a period of time. The title, Minor Directions, carries dual meaning: most of the songs are in a minor key, and the musicians received minor direction for approaching each song. The intent was to let the musicians explore and create together with only a song concept to get started. The musicians were only given simple chord charts, some reference tracks, and a general concept with minimal direction to arrange and compose the rhythms and solos. All the songs are instrumentals. The artists communicate the emotion and stories of each song by their interpretation of each song concept. Hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we did creating it.
