Feel Your Way Out
Sly Violet's built her rep on entertaining live shows and stellar songwriting with 8 years of performing experience, 2 CDs, 1 Western Canada tour and a love for the stage and all things musical. Her second release captures a sense of longing. Longing for something unknown, but certainly something more. The title, FEEL YOUR WAY OUT evokes images of relying solely on a sense of touch with a deeper emotional guide to work one's way thru the tangles we weave. The sparse folk arrangements are built from her original flavour of songwriting using acoustic guitar and lovely harmonies, with ripples of piano and percussion sprinkled on top to make a delicious Canadian indie folk masterpiece. Though her melancholy tone resembles Elliott Smith and Hayden, her tender singing voice has been compared to Joni Mitchell, her guitar style entrenches a touch of Dashboard Confessional and her pianist soul rivals Ben Folds. She breaks traditional song structure at every chance, telling her tales in a less predictable manner yet still embodying the Canadian indie folk spirit.
