Between the Noise
Simon Shapiro Sydney based Independent singersongwriter. Hailing from Sydney Australia Simon has been writing songs since he was 8 yrs old and performing and recording for over 20yr 2007 was a productive and successful year for Simon Shapiro. Simon won The APRA Songwriters Award in November 2007 at the Musicoz awards for 'What a Day', and was also nominated for Best Pop artist. In August 2007, 'Anything to Anyone', won best RockIndie song at the 27th ASA (Australian songwriters association) awards, where Simon also won the major award being named 'Songwriter of the year'. This song also won the pop category of the U.S 'Song of the year' competition for September and is in the running for the major awards in March 2008. This year has started in a similar fashion, with a share in the Gold prize at the Park City Film Music Festival in America and an Invitation to perform at the Cape May singersongwriter Festival in New Jersey. Simon has also been booked as SingerBass player in the house band on popular TV show the Channel Nine Footy Show- every Thursday night from March To October 2008. 'City Talks', from Simon's upcoming album, features in Helicon Arts production 'YESTERDAY WAS A LIE', a full-feature noir film from award winning American writerdirector James Kerwin. The film won the top prize at this years Park City Music in Film Festival (part of the Sundance film festival) Jan 2008. Simon's debut solo album, 'Between the Noise' has been a labour of love for Simon and renowned producer Lindsay Rimes for the past year, and will be released independently early 2008. Simon's side-project KisTone has been creating plenty of attention including performances on MTV in October and coming 2nd in the national 'Nokia Beheard' competition. On the live scene, Simon played seven shows to thousands of people at last years Royal Easter show and was support act for 'The Spencer Davis Group' on their Australian tour, as well as numerous guest performances warming up for Australian legends Richard Clapton, Colin Hay (Men At Work)Max Merritt and Dragon For much of 2006, Simon was in L.A recording tracks with his band, Jeapster, with Rudy Haussermann (Engineer for Match Box Twenty, Fiona Apple), and acclaimed producer Adam Kviman (Eagle Eye Cheery, Jewel, Maria Carey). Other achievements to date include four songs short listed at 2007 ASA awards, chosen as one of the top ten pop artist in 2006 'MUSICOZ' awards. Represented Australia in the international children's festival held in Shang Hai, 1993 Performed as half-time entertainment for 40,000 fans at the 2004 NRL semi-finals with his previous band Jeapster. As a musician and singer, Simon has performed and toured with some of Australia's' finest artists including Tommy Emmanuel, Glenn Shorrick, Richard Clapton, Darryl Braithwaite,Jenny Morris, Denni Hines, Sophie and Kia (The Saddle Club)and more.
