When the half-American singer moved from the UK to Holland to study music at the Amsterdam Conservatory in 2004, she also started successfully performing for a constantly increasing and, as it turns out, very loyal audiences. As a support act for established artists Signe is very much in demand too. She shared the stage with amongst others Lou Rhodes (ex Lamb) Alela Diane, Ane Brun, David Sylvian, and former Pavement member Stephen Malkmus with whom she performed in Germany and Italy. Tollefsen tours regularly in the UK, the USA and Canada too. In the fall of 2009 she released her titleless debuut album to much critical acclaim. Her music is often described as "Folk Noir". '...a tremendous vocal range and an interesting musical sensibility that combines elements of classical, folk and rock music ...startlingly good ...' [Songs: Illinois - USA] 'The vast amount of people who frequent her gigs certainly chose a superb artist to follow. Signe, ladies and gentlemen, is a genius in the making and it is urged you track her down sooner rather than later ' [Maverick Magazine UK] 'It's simply amazing' [Folk, Blues and Beyond - UK] Meanwhile ......, out of the blue, Theater van Het Sentiment, an excellent program on Dutch National Radio 2, phoned. One of their team caught Dutch / American singer-songwriter Signe Tollefsen playing live with Alela Diana and was extremely impressed. The show was running a short series of tribute nights and requested Signe to participate. The artist of choice was Michael Jackson. The song Signe picked was 'Dirty Diana' which she turned inside out and brilliantly captured the essence of. Jaws dropped on the studio floor when Tollefsen performed 'Dirty Diana' live on air. As it happened Signe's live set already included a version of P.J. Harvey's 'Down By The Water' and every now and then she sang a favourite song by another artist in the encores of her shows. Songs she always totally made her own. We have been receiving many requests for recorded versions of these songs, so by popular demand here's some of Signe Tollefsen's 'Baggage' The songs on 'Baggage' are: You Are My Sunshine original version by Jimmie Davis No Thank You - original version by The Woodwards Glory Box original version by Portishead Dirty Diana original version by Michael Jackson Down By The Water original version by P.J. Harvey As The World Falls Down original version by David Bowie.
