Are You Listening? An Eclectic Holiday
The last couple of years, I put together a band for the annual company holiday party at my work and I played at the CVUUF (Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship) Christmas Eve services. I enjoy thinking up new ways of interpreting the classic and popular holiday songs that fill our airspace wherever you go in December. For last year's CVUUF Christmas Eve service, I played The Little Drummer Boy using my guitar as a percussive instrument - slapping the strings instead of strumming them. It made perfect sense to me since the song is about a kid playing his drum. I wanted to capture that approach and recorded the song after the holidays. That's when I got the idea that it would be cool to do a holiday CD with members of our CVUUF congregation, and to sell it to raise funds for our fellowship. I challenged myself to come up with new arrangements that would also reflect the eclectic nature of our members. So what you'll find here are the classics with a twist - a wide mix of influences and styles that add up to be more than it's individual parts. We are so blessed to have such great talent all in one place. So finally, here's our eclectic holiday album... ...are you listening? Happy Holidays to you and your kin, Klaus Ebert.
