Log of the Albatross
(Professionally Duplicated CD)
Salty Walt's arrangements are aimed at accurately recreating the historical presentation of maritime music, while finding new ways to make the tradition relevant and alive to modern audiences. Their sets are a mixture of modern sea songs, traditional work songs, forebitters, and the occasional outlandish parody, and tonally encompass a range that runs from haunting despair to jovial irreverence. Walt himself has worked as an educator on board ships and at museums, including Historic Richmondtown, Conference House, and SF Maritime. He has performed at events ranging from workshops at the Mystic Sea Music Festival to Burning Man cabarets, and spends much of his free time digging through books and albums (and writing to a few of the performers above) looking for lost gems of sea music.
