Influenced by both Eastern and Western masters alike, Salah Kanakri's most favorite composers are S. Darwish and A. Wahhab from the East, Beethoven and Khatchaturian from the West. A winner of the 'Egyptian State Stipendium for Music Composition' two times for the main subject 'The Influence of Folklore on Art, Particularly on Music', a serious collector of folk songs, a teacher of Arabic folk and art song and an ardent student of E. Prout's 'Harmony, it's Theory and Practice' and Rimsky-Korsakof's 'Principles of Orchestration'. Keeping the great works of the Russian and Spanish composers in mind. Kanakri believes in the existence of a healthy link between East and West through music.
