Product notities

Christina (Tollinchi) Souza began singing at the age of five where she made her debut singing "What can I give to the King" at Kailua Church of the Nazarene on the Island of Oahu. She was born in the south Bronx in New York City, but her single parent mother did not want to raise her children alone in the projects. Her mother decided Hawaii was where her children needed to grow up. With no job and no family her mother boldly made the move. Christina was blessed to grow up on an island where kindness abounds. This was where creativity flourished. She attended Kalaheo high school and was a part of the drama program at Castle high school led by Ronald Bright. Stars were in her eyes and she continued with theater and eventually met her future husband Ryan Souza during the run of Pirates of Penzance at Diamond Head Theater. They married and moved back to the Bronx where she was in pursuit of Broadway. Instead of Broadway she met and went on tour with Bette Midler. After working with someone who was a celebrity she decided Hollywood was where she needed to be. In Los Angeles she became Michelle in Dream girls, Selena in the musical Selena, an Herbal Essence girl, in American Family starring Edward James Olmos, featured in CSI Miami, a sassy secretary with Ted Danson on Becker, a grieving widow in Navy NCIS and featured in Boston Legal. Most recently Christina played the lead character of Dayumae in the movie "End of the Spear". In the midst of her success there was a heavy strain in her relationship with her husband. After much turmoil they decided to go their separate ways. She was not prepared for the flood of prayers from her friends and family to keep them together. After much soul searching and prayer God brought them back together and is keeping them together. This CD is the gift that came from that struggle. A story of true love. The love of God. Ryan Souza grew up on the North Shore on the island of Oahu. Interestingly enough he did not surf growing up although he did participate in many other sports. Ryan comes from an amazing family of seven; Mom, Dad one brother and three sisters, and he's the baby. The siblings grew up singing with Mom and Dad as they sang at churches throughout Hawaii. Ryan was the one to take singing a little more seriously than his siblings. Fast forward to college and Ryan had no desire to pursue music as a career because to him to sing was to give freely and to share without it becoming a career driven thing; So, he began studying to become an architect, that is until the voice teacher for his college heard him. She simply said, 'You have a gift, and should be singing.' That was the beginning of his formal training in voice and performing. Ryan eventually graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1996 with a BA in Music with emphasis on voice. During his time in college Ryan performed with Hawaii Opera Theater for four seasons with occasional comprimario roles. Ryan was awarded Certificates of Merit for Music every semester for three years, Placed First and Second for the NATS vocal competitions in Hawaii, and was awarded the Hawaiian Music Scholarship given to outstanding music students. Ryan moved to New York in 1997 with his wife Christina to study privately hoping to take his singing to the next level. He studied for a year with Arturo Spinetti whose mentor was the great opera tenor Mario Del Monaco. After a year of living in New York he realized how difficult it was to maintain a marriage while in the performing arts industry. He decided to put his singing on hold while Christina pursued her career, and began working in retail... for the next 8 years! Ryan still managed to sing on occasion, but not professionally by this point. The Souzas moved to California in 2000 where Christina could pursue her acting career. Ryan continued in retail but was missing his calling. He knew God blessed him with a gift to sing, but also knew that it was in God's time that he would sing again. Now in 2006 the Souza's are at a place where they both understand their calling so much more and are learning the purpose behind it. Through constant prayer and seeking they have found God again in their lives, and a new and refreshed love for each other. Ryan and Christina hope to share that love through their music and more so through their being. Me ke aloha pumehana (with warm love), Ryan and Christina.
