Rug is the collective outlet for the songs of Fenwick Johnson, a Dallas-based songwriter and singer. It's also a creative outlet for a group of veteran musicians, including Alex Nahas (Bright Brown, Laughingstock, John Vanderslice) and legendary horn player, composer, and arranger Dan Levine (They Might Be Giants, Ray Charles, David Byrne, Frank Sinatra, etc.). Communicato was inspired by the classic idea of an album: it's not a group of unrelated songs molded for easy download but rather a collection of songs that work together to tell a story. Some are throwbacks to 60s era innocence and simplicity, and some are more introspective and progressive. Most of all, they are songs meant to be enjoyed: no pyrotechnics necessary. That's the reason for the group name "Rug:" if the music can hold it's own, you should be able to call yourselves the most foolish name in the world and still have your songs heard. If you like what you hear, stay tuned: Rug may leave the studio for the stage in the future ...
