While enrolled in the University of North Texas (2006-2011), and after graduating, he stayed busy performing/recording in the DFW area and Internationally with musicians like Li Xiaochuan, Shelley Carroll, Stockton Helbing, Adonis Rose, Quamon Fowler, Evan Weiss, Yuka Tadano, Tommy Campbell, Teriver Cheung, Linda Oh, Ross Pederson, Brian Girley and Jason 'JT' Thomas, to name a few. Roberto also had the opportunity to play with many guest artists in UNT; jazz legends such as Lyle Mays, Tim Warfield, Jimmy Cobb, Ingrid Jensen, Billy Hart and Curtis Fuller, and has performed and toured with many different groups in Asia, Europe and the American Continent, in Stages such as the Meyerson Symphony Center (Dallas, USA), Saenger Theater (Pensacola, USA), the Jazz Bakery (Los Angeles, USA), Anshan Concert Hall (Anshan, China), Shanghai Concert Hall (Shanghai, China), George-house (Hitachi, Japan), Fringe Club (Hong Kong), Cafe Iguana (Monterrey, Mexico) and festivals such as the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival, Addison Jazz Festival, Folsom Jazz Festival, Lewisville Lake Symphony International Chamber Series, and Shanghai World Expo. In spring 2010 Roberto was selected as one of five finalists worldwide to compete in the renowned Phillips Jazz Piano Competition in Florida, and won 2nd place. From 2009-2010 Roberto was a member of the World Famous, Grammy Nominated UNT One O'clock Lab Band, precisely the year in which the Band got their most recent couple Grammy Nominations. He currently is a member of Bob Belden's band, Animation. Over these years Roberto has had the opportunity to study with Stefan Karlsson, Anastasia Markina, Dan Haerle, Paul Dworak, Dan Tepfer, Steven Harlos, Kevin Hays, John Clayton, Larry Grenadier and Fred Hersch. Roberto Verastegui began playing the piano at the age of 8, picking up melodies by ear and learning tunes from his father (Roberto Verastegui Rdz). His father's bolero collection marked Roberto's ears giving him a starting point to the developing of his love for harmony. He began playing gigs at 10, playing boleros and commercial music, touring around Mexico. At age 13 Roberto discovered latin and contemporary jazz and began listening to Chick Corea and Bill Evans records. He began his classical piano studies when he was 15 and studied with Roxana Rodriguez, Teresa Tamez and Amalia de Leon and studied harmony and counterpoint with Patricio Gomez Junco. During his high school years he got involved in musical theater, pop and regional music groups, and quickly broke into the Monterrey jazz scene playing in many latin jazz and traditional jazz combos. In this period of time he toured France and Portugal with the group Raices PrepaTec. Through these years Roberto learned to play many instruments by himself, including Accordion, Guitar, Marimba, Vibes, Vihuela and Percussion, and he has had the opportunity to play and record with many different and diverse groups, including the Quamon Fowler Quartet (Jazz, Other), YT Little D (Jazz-NuJazz), Nobody's Business (Experimental, Other), Li Xiaochuan Quartet (Jazz, Other) and was a member of the Disneyland All-American College Band 2008.
