Rick West was born in a small town in Maine. It Seemed he was as for away from country music as you can get. In his early teens, he started playing on an old guitar his grandmother bought him. She taught him the basics on how to play and sing. It wasn't until later in life his love of music took him th the stage. Rick started playing publicly while serving in the Marine Corp. And when stationed in Japan he entered a competition, winning first runner up. With the support of family and friends, after returning to the states he played locally on weekends at nightclubs, keeping his love for music alive. In the late 90's Rick put together a talented group of people with the same enthusiam and love of music that he had. Together they formed the group Cherokee. Practicing in his backyard studio and performing on the weekends, they played to packed houses. In 2000, Rick and Cherokee entered their first competition. They have won several awards in both state and national competitions, and shared the stage with many talented musicians such as, Blake Shelton, T.Graham Brown, Darryl Worley, and signed to a contract with Confederate Railroad. Rick and his band have headlined the Colgate Country Showdown in Augusta, Maine, and also Manchester, N.H. They have also performed in Las Vegas for the National Country Music Organization of America. Rick is now signed with KMA Records out of Nashville and has produced his first self titled album.
