I'm a Jazz guitarist originally from Mississippi, based in Asia for the last 25 years. As the bandleader of the iconic Harry's Bar in Singapore for the last 18 years, I've had the chance to play with many incredible musicians and I've been fortunate to be able to enlist their help in completing this project. They are the amazing Wess Andersen on alto sax, Walter Blanding Jr. on tenor sax (who contributed his beautiful tune The Olive Tree) and Marcus Printup on trumpet. I met them when they were touring with Wynton Marsalis and brought them back to Singapore to perform and record. They're supported by my quartet of many years; ChromaZone (Christy Smith, bass; Ed Layman, drums; Nic Lim, Piano), In addition, I was lucky to have contributions from Jens Bunge from Germany on Chromatic Harmonica, the late great Micheal Stanton on piano (sadly missed) and Singapore's premier string Quartet, the T'ang Quartet. The three vocal tunes feature the awesome Richard Jackson. Hoagy Carmicheal's Skylark features he and I in an intimate duo setting, just classical guitar and voice. His interpretations of my originals, The Trembler and The Arkansas Traveler is Home still give me goosebumps today. The multi-talented Bruno Le Flanchec, without whom I would never have gotten thru this, assisted all the arranging, editing and mixing. As my first real CD I wanted to focus more on composing, writing lyrics and producing than doing a guitar feature CD, although the guitar fans will enjoy the live rendition of Body and Soul featureing Wess and I, and the classical guitar arrangement of Skylark. Enjoy!
