Retrojaz is a collaboration of two UK artistes who share a love of The Great American Songbook. Ray Barrett grew up listening to his mothers' music of the 40s and his brothers' music of the 50s. Transferring that to his era of the 60s, the guitar was a natural instrument for him to be drawn to, so when at the age of 12, his father gave him a guitar, his life's passion was released. The early influences of Mississippi John Hurt, Chet Atkins, and Barney Kessel directed his musical evolvement and are still present today; although now they are blended into the unique sound that is Ray Barrett. Andrea hails from the famous English seaside resort, Blackpool where she first started singing with Jazz and swing bands. Andrea's influences are Lena Horne, Billy Holiday, Peggy Lee, Julie London to name but a few. Later living in South Africa, she developed her vocal talent in the clubs and hotels around Johannesburg. Ray and Andrea now live in Warwickshire and bring the great songs of Gershwin, Porter, Arlen, and Rogers and Hart to local music venues across the region. The albums "Time flies" and "Interestin' times" are compilations of new and fresh songs, written by Retrojaz, which compliment their Standards repertoire. You'll hear smooth bossa nova's, Samba's, Blues, and soulful ballads Tastefully arranged, using local musicians and recorded in rural locations in Warwickshire UK.
