RetroPotential is a jazz trio based in the Seattle area. The members of the group are Melynda Poplin, doubling on clarinet and voice, Bret Smith on banjo and Curtis Peacock on tuba. This jazz trio's sound is reminiscent of New Orleans style early jazz, but RetroPotential transforms the early jazz sound through modern virtuosic performance. These performers are all accomplished classical artists as well as jazz players. So, they re-imagine modern jazz, blues and rock from an early jazz perspective by performing all kinds of music in a brilliant early jazz style. The name RetroPotential is derived from these concepts.
