Take Your Time
Take Your Time! Well, here it finally is! I certainly did take my time - procrastination was always one of my favourite character traits! Give or take 18 years, I reckon! It was that long ago that I first started putting music to Bruce R. F. Smith's splendid lyrics - thanks Bruce! Over the years we would, now & then, get together and write songs in various genres, intended for performing artists. The creation of a new song is always a great joy - but it is equally gratifying if one can also bring pleasure to others with one's work. Sadly the somewhat basic demo recordings remained on the shelf gathering dust. Through the years, we would regularly 'pitch' songs in vain to publishers or artists - but no suitable artist was to be found: "Don't call us, we'll call you!" If only I had got a 'proper job'! Should I perhaps have stuck to being a backing pianist? An honourable pursuit, by the way! Well, I thought, if nobody wants to sing our songs, then I'll sing them myself! I don't, however, regard myself as a true singer, more as a backing pianist who, now and then, sings along a little, preferably not too loud, so that nobody notices, because when the spotlights are on me and everybody listens in silence, I break out in a sweat. That's something I just can't stand! Strange but true! But how else could I get the songs heard?! It was a question of summoning up (Dutch) courage because, otherwise, in 40 years time, in some Old Folks' Home, I could hear myself mumbling to the nurse about all the many wonderful songs I had lying in some drawer...."Yes, yes, Mr. De Ronde, just keep taking your tablets and don't you worry!", would come the soothing but humiliating reply!!! Well, that's how the idea for this CD, "Take Your Time", came about - better late than never! After making an initial selection of songs, I then called upon the expert assistance of vibraphonist/arranger/percussionist, Frits Landesbergen, of Baileo Productions, to organize and execute the production, thus bringing order to chaos. In this he has more than succeeded! Thanks, Frits! With fantastic musicians and a first class studio! (Powersound Amsterdam, thanks Paul!) Frank in Person, many thanks for your vocal interpretation of, "Love Was Out To Get Me!", ( Marcel Rozenberg, thanks for the photos and cover design At last, "Take Your Time" has arrived!! It's been a great journey! Hope you enjoy it too! An & Loet, a special big 'thank you!' is due to you for making this CD possible. Now onto the next CD - hopefully before 2030 - just a small matter of finding a few sponsors in the meantime! Enjoy, sit back & relax! Take your time and pour a little wine: "Cheers!"
