Just As I Am
Renee Johnson - "Just As I Am" Renée Johnson launched her professional music career as a member of the gospel group, Sisters in Harmony, who released their debut CD in 2002. Throughout the years she has performed in churches and concerts throughout the DC/Baltimore Metropolitan area. Her recent release, JUST AS I AM, is her debut solo project, which she hopes will inspire all who listen to examine their relationship with the Lord and Savior. Renée's JUST AS I AM can be described as 'Gospel Art' in that it is boldly thought-provoking and pensive. Her CD is conceptually modern because the lyrics and music were crafted not only to touch the souls of gospel and Christian music listeners but also to attract the hearts of jazz, classical, urban, and folk lovers as well. Her powerful renditions on ballads such as NO ONE CAN KEEP YOU FROM THE LORD and I'LL TAKE JESUS are complimented by jazz-flavored offerings as in AND THEREIN LIES THE TRUTH and the instrumental reprise of GONNA REMEMBER THIS TIME that features jazz pianist and U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassador Eric Byrd. Renée also 'shares the stage' with Duane Moody of Three Mo' Tenors on a Bernard R. Caldwell arrangement of OLD SHIP OF ZION and also with Baltimore-based rapper Daniel 'Damien' Brown on CALLING ALL SAINTS. All of these tracks are tempered with classical, but modern, arrangements of JUST AS I AM (title track), OLD RUGGED CROSS, and Bernard's original, IN THE MORNING. The recording concludes with an introspective epilogue entitled BEYOND THE FIELD. This recording actively seeks to 'move' the listener. Renée's producer is composer/arranger Glenn Caldwell, PhD. Dr. Caldwell has arranged and orchestrated projects for Byron Cage, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Juanita Bynum, Stevie Wonder, Ruben Studdard, Chaka Khan, The Lionel Hampton Big Band, and others.
