It all started with... Brothers? Yeah, you could say that: they all grew up together. Home-schooled kids always at each other's houses spending their early childhood together. As a child, Ryan had a desire to play guitar but Ryan's mom made him take piano lessons, first, to give him a good foundation in music. Reluctantly, he went, and was eventually taken into the world of music. It was obvious that piano wasn't his calling but music was. In a couple of years, at age 11, Ryan began taking guitar lessons. A few years after that Ryan and Aaron found their "niche" when they began playing music together. They both knew that whatever they did, music would be a part of their beings forever. As teenagers Aaron and Ryan shared the same musical interests, listening to every band that had a song on the radio. It wasn't long before they began attempting to mimic the notes and rhythms. So a couple of guitarists: That doesn't make a band. Well Aaron has a little brother, Nathan. He joined the project after he took a liking to the backbone of all rock bands: The drums. Being the youngest of the trio, Nathan brought an aspect of modern rock to the band which was fueled by more old-school rock forces such as Rush, Ozzy, and Foo Fighters. Aaron also traded his guitar for one with only four strings: A bass guitar. So at this point, in about July of 2003, you could say Refined was conceived. What it later became... It all started as a hobby, rocking out in a garage with friends and family cheering after every song. But that's all it was: A hobby, something done in spare time. Worked on during weekends when it was convenient for all the members to get together, it remained just that until the gears in their heads began to turn. How about forming a passion out of a hobby? Why not create something we can be proud of? And become something greater then what we are now. It was always the next step but it wasn't as simple as it may seem. The music they had created would not stay confined as something left for the few: It was destined to be shared with everyone. With the release of their debut album, Ryan, Aaron, and Nathan can proudly say they have accomplished the dream of anyone who ever wanted to start a band. But the journey is only beginning. Upon finishing work on their current music, the drive to create more pushed the band to become better yet. One thing that had to change was the number of band members, for the sake of live shows, music quality and his sanity, Ryan wanted to find someone who could take over lead guitar so he could focus on his vocals. Enter, Brogan Else: The latest member of the band who joined in the spring of 2006. His skill with six strings, and drive of music made him a more than appropriate addition to Refined. In only a week he was able to play a live show, having never heard the band's music before. Armed with their weapons of musical prowess, the members of Refined are loaded and cocked with their sights aimed at the future and all it holds for them. It still evolves... Fueled by the drive to create and become something greater, Refined takes to the stage with electric grace and rhythmic power. Their style now is some what undefined. Growing up listening to a myriad of different styles of music, played a major role in shaping the band to what it has become. From pop, to punk, to alternative, to metal, and every other style that contributed to all the chaos of creation, formation, and infancy, one thing has stayed the same: The roots of rock. Anchored deep in the center of the band is the modern take on classic rock. In recent years a plague has begun to fester in the music industry; formulaic rock. A song is more than some intro, three identical verses, a bridge, one more verse exactly the same as the other three and ending it on one note drug out too long. Refined seeks to return to the roots of rock, not just writing music that's catchy, but music that speaks to it's listeners: Making music that tests the limits of each band member's skill and highlights their talents; Forming thoughts, feelings, and emotions into an electrified art form; Music driven by emotion, and sewn together with guitar solos, cymbal drops and bass pulses destroying the silence and replacing it with the music the world has been searching for.
