Raised By Iguanas
This album demands attention from the start with the loud and proud riffing of Heartbreaker's Highway. From there the listener is captivated by the haunting melody and spine tingling fret work of Mister Guitar Player. The superb songwriting and impassioned vocal performances continue through several more tracks......and just when you think you've heard his whole bag of tricks; Perkins switches gears and takes you to another corner of his mind. The psychedelic instrumentation of Gingerbread Sleeze provides a twisted build up to the ultra-catchy pop of Look What Cindy Did. By the time the second chorus rolls around it is impossible not to sing along with Cindy! The experimental songwriting and arrangements kick into high gear for the second half of the album. Dirty Kids mixes a hypnotic keyboard riff with a face melting heavy metal freak out. The unique time signature and beautifully layered vocals of Fly Away jump abruptly into the pounding rhythm and screaming leads of Tick Tock. The percussion and vocal meltdown that closes the final track provides a sense of finality, yet leaves the listener wanting more. Recording began with low-fi gear and a storage building in rural Texas, and was finished in a state of the art digital studio in Dallas. These wildly different recording environments gave the album a polished sound while retaining a warm and home-grown style. Perkins played every instrument himself, allowing his vision for each song to come to complete fruition. His unique yet familiar songwriting and style make this a must have for fans of all genres.
