Spoken Words from Visions to Reality
This album is a mixture of spoken word poetry with jazz vocals and African syncopations. The content is a commentary on social issues that affect the African-American community, and the community at large. The genre is hard to categorize. The poetry covers politics, love, young girls, history, and self esteem. The vocals are mystical chants, harmonies, and classic jazz. Participants in this project are all family or long term friends who worked with me for almost a year before I finally agreed that it was ready for release. The response has be extremely positive and local distribution has been brisk. The sound like Artist choices were a little difficult as I really think that my artistry is unique to me though I have been told that my vocals are a cross between Sade and Betty Carter. My poetry could be somewhere between The Last Poets, Gill Scott, and Maya Angelo, and the African rhythms are a reflection of my relationship with the drum and my culture as an African centered woman. I am pleased to know that teachers, hip hop artist, and elders have all found something in this work that appeals to there senses So please sample my offerings that are designed to entertain, educate, and enlighten you. Queen Sabree.
