The Phil Parnell Trio release their 2nd CD 'Blue' featuring Danish Blusicians Torben Bjørnskov (b) and Espen Laub (d) on June 15th, with an interesting blueprint of cobalt sounds and azure songs from their own glaucous ballpoints, and a guest appearance from Swiss team FR:: YK -Franco Mento (beats) and Yannick Barman (tpt)- and with songs from Herbert, Monk, Bjørnskov, Parnell and Laub. This is NOT a blues CD. It IS mellow and intense, playful and solemn, dark and bright, a gloomy and hopeful journey through the spectrum. A very listenable venture tweaked with subtle electronic nuances and acoustic richness. Niels Overgård from "JazzNyt" writes: "...Blue is a messy plate, where the amazing pianist Parnell together with the Danish musicians once again shows that you do not have to follow predetermined routes, even if you are a jazz trio."
