Moment of Clarity
Point 79 is one of San Antonio's up and coming rock/alternative bands, a group of individuals who have put their focus on writing the music of life and it's experiences, of it's ups and downs, of loves lost and perhaps of loves yet to arrive. With overall influences ranging from Matchbox 20, U2, Tool, Creed, and 3 Doors Down, the band's style is based on emotion, with painful, angry moments pounded out, followed by melancholy dirges of being forgotten, to the energetic excitement of meeting someone for the first time. What is constant is a band that writes and plays from the heart, and plays to themselves and anyone who can relate. That, and their belief that this band is more family and friend than just fellow musicians, gives Point 79 their unique feel and vision. With performance in the San Antonio Hard Rock's finals for the Town Fair IV Battle of the Bands, the Texas Quadruple Bypass Festival in Austin, as well as performances in Houston and Dallas, Point 79 is spreading throughout Texas and the rest of the US with their own brand of musical honesty. Point 79's current and permanent lineup of Jimi Aguillon (vocals), Andrew Jett (guitars), Michael Caron (bass), and Shane Mesusan (drums) has been together since July '02. Formed originally in August '01 by Jimi and Andy, and joined soon after by Mike, the band went through some trials finding the right drummer; until Shane joined the band and the chemistry experiment found success. All members had served in the US Air Force (with Jimi currently finishing up his enlistment) and that provided the opportunities for these individuals to meet (Mike and Andy met and became friends while on active duty, Andy worked with Jimi, and Shane was introduced through a common friend). This common background helped all 4 members, originally from various parts of the US, come together and relate in the only way that would allow this music to be conceived. Future plans include the never-ending pounding of the streets and doing what they love: playing music for those that love to hear it. A tour of Texas is currently being organized, as well as organizing shows with other great bands from the local area, Point 79 is doing all the things that they need to do to become great musicians...put their time, heart, and souls into it, and pay their dues.
