Good Shepherd Suite
Jazz pianist/composer Pete Malinverni is best known for his many heralded recordings in solo, trio and quintet settings. But in recent years he has begun to develop a new form of music, combining elements of Jazz (pyrotechnic improvisation, interesting chord progressions, and group interplay) and Gospel (soulful singing with bluesy inflections born of the African-American church). This unique combination was heard most recently on his CD/DVD 'Joyful!'. Here, on 'The Good Shepherd Suite', Malinverni adds still more to the equation, as he presents a six-movement suite for Gospel Choir and Jazz Big Band with a text taken from the 23rd Psalm of King David. The many moods and textures on this recording of a live performance at New York's Symphony Space make for a listening experience that is NOT to be missed!
