Product notities

Paul Coady has been playing rock-n-roll in bars and clubs for over two decades, most of it with garage rock band, Prairie Town. He has carved a niche for himself with his singer-songwriter lyrical sensibilities and his penchant for enthusiastic, overdriven guitars.   Driftin' Years (2011) is Paul's follow up to his first solo CD, 2009's well-received Quarter Mile. It continues Paul's tradition of storytelling garage rock. The title track is his declaration to his wife, singer-songwriter Kathy Greenholdt. Songs like Show You How, Take The Weight and Another Lost Night give an accurate representation of the band's live attack, while Billy Needed Killin' and Makin' Contact strip themselves down to their quiet, bare essentials. The CD also includes Paul's energetic cover of Buddy Holly's Maybe Baby. The CD is one of dynamics, from quiet to loud, joyous to somber, but all the songs come from the same inspiration: pick up a guitar and tell your stories.   Recorded in Paul's home studio, with Paul on guitars, vocals and harmonica, Driftin' Years features contributions by a variety of musicians: Bassist Rob Fore (The Hungries, The Edsel Bros.), Drummer Joe Klapka (The Hungries, The Edsel Bros.), Organist Rick Franklin (Detholz) and Background Vocalist Steve Frisbie (Frisbie). A Review from Roctober Magazine Coady has been around the Chicagoland rock scene forever, always delivering some solid, working class, rock n roll for the regular guy. But this newest release really cranks up everything that makes his earnest, heartland songwriting so special. I have always dug PC, but the lead track here 'Show You How' is probably twice as good as anything I've ever heard him do. Screw Mellencamp, you want Midwestern everyman rock, that's willing to reference everything from Buddy Holly ('Maybe Baby'), to the Boss ('Nothin' For Free'), to American history ('Billy Needed Killin', about the Kid not Corgan) Coady is your cat. - Jake Austen, Roctober Magazine (#49, 2011)
