This was one of the most enjoyable recordings that I have made. It was late February in the North East .. bitter cold, icicles hanging over your head, heaps of packed snow covering the sidewalks, wind blowing the loose snow upward. The warmth of the studio was so welcome. As i started to warm up, I knew this was going to be a special time. The agenda was immediately thrown out and I started to play. What came out were 11 very differnent tone poems, all describing one aspect of the winter. Also, my various influences, both classical as well as modern, came to me, each reminding me of where I had come from. The pieces are nonetheless personal and were my vision as I played. There was no resistance in these to 'avoid sounding like something that already exists'; the Muse came and the pianist followed.
