Product notities

I was born in Dallas and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I wrote, sang, and did all the instrumentation on this CD. The CD has a theme of 'hard times' - something everyone goes through. Sometimes it feels like we'll never get out of those rough times - but I think the songs show a hope for better times - which I've found usually do come if you believe they will. 'Martha' and 'Brother John' are about war - 'Martha' about the current war on terrorism and 'Brother John' about Vietnam - both are mellow ballads, as is 'Hello Hollywood' - about another hopeful artist who comes to Hollywood to be a star. The title song, 'Hard Times,' as well as 'Who Said,' 'Life's So Lonely,' 'Did You See The Rain,' 'Burning Embers,' and 'Wounded Bird' are up-tempo pop/rock songs; 'Rain One Me' and 'Chester & Me' border on R&B/Blues. 'When I Stand At The Riverside' has a spiritual feel to it - different genres for all of our different moods. The song 'Burning Embers' is about the riots in Los Angeles in 1992. I was there and saw and smelled the smoke coming from outside my apartment - I remember the fear, as it seemed the entire town was on fire. It took my wife 6 hours to get home from work that day - a trip that usually took 15 minutes. All that devastation was prompted by pent-up frustration caused by racial injustice. This song expresses my frustration that change is so slow in coming. I hope you 'enjoy' the CD - sometimes the most meaningful music is that which makes you feel. I do think, however, that there's a silver lining to it all.
