Chicago is their hideaway, a place where they've learned about the wind. You can hear what they're reaching for in their music. Something new, something vast and open. You hear a unique quality in the voice of Cathy Massey, something real and compelling. She has the ability to get inside a melody, not just sing it. Her delivery is from the heart, from the soul. Can someone as alluring as she actually sing that magnificently? Dreams do come true. She says that she often flies in her dreams. There is a history behind this group. Massey and Jiaras, the songwriting team of Out of the Ocean have worked together before in the band TAMI SHOW, which spawned albums for Chrysalis and RCA. The two also co-penned the top 30 pop radio hit "The Truth." The songs they write are as compelling as they are memorable. Out of the Ocean has a distinctive sound, an identity, an unusual intriguing quality. Cathy Massey has her sonic heroes: Bowie, Mitchell, the Beatles and Wonder. Her favorite places? "Where the barnacles cling, on some briny blue sea body." She is happiest when her ideas for a song slip into a perfect sonic body. She gives birth to it from her fantasy and her mouth and hands. Her secret fantasy? To wake up in Middle Earth. She's half Irish--and half Mediterranean. How else could a woman have wavy blond hair not from a bottle and sea green eyes not from contact lenses? How else could all the beauties of the north and south be folded into one flesh and voice? Cathy just laughs like seawater on corals. Contact Out of the Ocean at: Dunadan1@comcast.net.
