Drop the World
Contains: carbonated bass lines, caffeinated drumbeats, acidic guitar rhythms, high fructose vocals, and Other Natural Flavors. The mouthwatering music of this inventive band combines a delicious taste of modern rock with a side order of edgy pop. Influences include but are not limited to the Pixies, Stone Temple Pilots, Sublime. Other Natural Flavors (ONF) is a steadfast quintet consisting of the following ingredients: Chris Van Cott (vocals and guitar), Maritza Rodriguez (vocals), Joe Pangia (bass guitar), Steve Olivera (lead guitar) and George Loiodice (drums). Each member supplies a punch of their own musical tastes, when blended make for a zesty sound unmatched by any band. As one listens to the catalog of ONF music, a distinct, tasteful songwriting style can be noted, but collectively their songs elude a single genre. The diversity of a band like Sublime or the Clash may come to mind when listening to an ONF record, while individual songs combine the modern wit and bite of Foo Fighters with the classic male/female harmonies of Fleetwood Mac. The press has used terms like 'organic', 'refreshing', 'intelligent', 'progressive' and 'enlightened' to describe the music of this band. 2003 has been a busy year for ONF, beginning with the release of their latest full length CD, Drop the World, recorded at West Hollywood's Paramount Recording Studios (Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin). Veteran engineer, Barry Conley (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sugar Ray) said this about the band, 'Great songs, great players... Great record!' Drop the World is a diverse collection of thoughtfully written songs about taking chances, disinterested rock stars, and the media's influence on one's reality. Over 100 U.S. college radio stations have been spinning tracks from the record since February. ONF is presently writing and rehearsing in preparation for their presently untitled second studio effort. Live performances of ONF reveal the passion of an animated group of musicians who radiate a true zeal for music. ONF has had the opportunity to share the stage with some of the nation's top performers such as Nine Days (Sony 550), Unified Theory, Goudie (Elektra), Laughing Colors, & Conehead Buddha in some of New York and San Diego's top clubs: the Mercury Lounge, the Elbow Room, Arlene's Grocery, CBGBs, the Belly Up Tavern, Cane's, and Brick by Brick. ONF has always been a motivated, 'Do It Yourself' outfit. The band writes, records, and produces their own music. They book their own gigs. They design their own CD layouts, T-shirts, and website. They also manage their own record label and music publishing company. It is quite clear that this band is an ambitious and energetic bunch!
