It captures a period of Dunedin music history from 2006-2009 through the eyes of concert promoter and producer Alastair Burns. 11 concerts and over 40 acts were recorded at former Dunedin venues The Backstage and St Lee's, plus one show at Roasted Addiqtion in Kingsland. From these recordings, 17 songs were selected, before being mixed and mastered by Tex Houston (The Clean, The Verlaines). 'Pages from Dunedin' is the second release by Horizon Music NZ. It follows 'On the Horizon: Songwriters Collection', a 2006 release featuring 12 Auckland songwriters which NZ Musician Magazine called a "homegrown gem". The music centres around emotive, effecting songs, layered in stories of life, death, love, isolation, stereotypes, home, and transience. The arrangements are stripped back and acoustic, allowing an eclectic group of songs to find a common ground. The album packaging is also a piece of art in it's own right. Dunedin artist Alan Ibell drew the cover based on a scene from a concert at The Backstage. The packaging also includes a 16-page booklet featuring lyrics and photos. RECENT NEWS 'Pages from Dunedin' was officially released on May 2nd at a concert featuring 14 songwriters on the album. Over 500 people attended the show at Dunedin's premier venue, The Regent Theatre. A DVD of the show will be released later this year. Six songwriters from the album also toured around New Zealand in May playing 16 shows in 16 days. The album is currently receiving radio play on student and community radio stations throughout New Zealand.
